WDR Big Band with Victor Bailey: The Music of Jaco Pastorius

Here’s the fantastic WDR Big Band with special guests Victor Bailey on bass and Peter Erskine on drums performing the music of Jaco Pastorius.

Things kick off appropriately with “Come On, Come Over”, the second track from Jaco’s debut album. Bailey does double duty on this one, playing the funky bass line while singing the vocals.

Other tunes include “Liberty City”, “Good Morning Anya”, “Teen Town”, “Reza”, “Three Views Of A Secret” and “Domingo”.

Corey Brown is the founder of No Treble and serves in an advisory role. He’s also Head of Editorial at Muse Group. Learn more about Corey on his website and LinkedIn.

  1. Jaco’s debut album opened with the explosive bass and percussion interpretation of “Donna Lee”. “Come On Come Over” was the second track.

    I mean, seriously?

    • Dang. What a gaffe! My mind got all twisted with “first album” and it turned into first song. Thanks for pointing that out.

  2. This footage is amazing! The level of musicianship by the entire band is a lesson within itself! Wow! Jaco was just as an amazing composer as he was a bass player. Pure genius. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Great band and fantastic compositions! Jaco’s genius? What more needs to be said?
