Funk and R&B Bass – At a Glance
Hal Leonard’s new At a Glance for bassists gets its latest edition with the release of Funk and R&B Bass.
As with all the titles in the series, Funk and R&B Bass pairs instructional DVD lessons with a supplemental book with TAB notation and details.
Funk and R&B Bass includes individualized study on topics including soul bass, basic slap and pop techniques, advanced slap and pop, and rhythm. The various topics offer information on tone and equipment, theory (scales, arpeggios), technique and approach, and topics on timing and space.
A key element to the methods include studying songs which fit the styles. Funk and R&B Bass features 20 song examples spanning all topics:
- Aeroplane
- Ain’t Too Proud To Beg
- Brick House
- Cissy Strut
- Fight The Power ‘Part 1’
- Higher Ground
- I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)
- I Heard It Through The Grapevine
- I Just Want To Celebrate
- I Want You Back
- I’ll Take You There
- Knock On Wood
- Le Freak
- Let’s Groove
- Love Games
- Pick Up The Pieces
- Soul Man
- Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf Again)
- We Are Family
- You Can’t Hurry Love
The title says “funk” but no JB or P funk? : (
Have to agree with Kris on this release: No James Brown in a book on funk and R&B is a glaring oversight.
aeroplane is here, but no rick james, no prince, no parliament, no funkadelic (yes they are two different things), or no james brown.
I am a major R&B fan, who recently moved to South Florida. I thought I had left all the R&B radio stations back in New York, but boy was I wrong. X102.3 is my new favorite station for the hottest and latest R&B tracks. It’s easy to get hooked on this http://www.thex1023.com.
