Ben Shepherd Announces Solo Debut, Preview Track
Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd is preparing to step out on his own with his solo debut album later this summer. His new project, which will be under the moniker HBS, started as a only voice and acoustic guitar, but collaborations with drummers Matt Cameron and Matt Chamberlain quickly expanded the effort’s sonic palette.
The album will be titled In Deep Owl, which is a reference to the neighborhood in Seattle where the bassist hangs out. Shepherd tapped into his multi-instrumental talents for the album and plays every instrument except drums.
Here’s a sample track entitled “Baron Robber”:
In Deep Owl is set for an August 27th release date, though the vinyl is available for pre-order on the HBS Bandcamp page.

He has a good voice. He did the vocals on Half for Superunknown, too.
