Bass of the Week: Ella Basses #0015

No Treble columnist Ryan Madora covered Summer NAMM for us this year, and one of the most striking pictures she took was at the Ella Basses booth.

This week we check out company’s #0015 bass, which centers around a beautiful blend of exotic woods.

Ella Basses #0015 Bass

The front of the bass is adorned with an interesting selection of cocobolo on its body top and fingerboard. The core of the body is limba, while the neck is a laminate of rock maple and wenge. The theme is continued on the bass’s pickup covers, which are limba and cocobolo.

The #0015’s neck is supported with a two-way adjustable truss rod and carbon fiber reinforcement. The pickups are a pair of Bartolini 5-string classic dual coils matched with a Bartolini two-band preamp. The controls include a volume knob, a blend knob, and a stacked bass/treble knob.

  1. now that’s a pretty bass!

  2. Nice wood detail on the end of fretboard, with mixed colours. Beautiful finishing job: the back cap is almost invisible! Personally, I don´t like gold hardware but this hardware-wood combination it´s amazing. Top bridge. It would be in desires list for Santa. :-)

  3. Major GAS coming through…..

  4. I’ve seen and played a couple of Jeff’s basses. Top quality artistry with super attention to detail. His basses not only look stunning but “play like buttah”.

  5. I own/play ELLA #12;(http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac300/LarryNealJ/Ella.jpg) a beautiful Singlecut 4-string. Jeff’s builds are superb, and the instruments have fantastic playability and tone. Glad to see ELLA Basses getting some attention & props

  6. Larry – I now own #11! https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/Hzvg9kLNWKd_tEw6iFZMfZR2y4mEEqCVyQjkl8NnjpE=w915-h902-no

It’s a beautiful bass with pretty woods. The sound is modern and aggressive with the ebony fingerboard and the EMG pups.

The action plays like no other previous Bella – I pushed Jeff to new limits in seeking low action ability and he responded and his bass allowed it.

It was going to be my backup bass but it’s taken the number one spot in my lineup.
