Snarky Puppy featuring Lalah Hathaway: Something

This is an absolutely dynamite combination. Snarky Puppy, led by bassist Michael League, recently released Family Dinner, Volume 1 with a host of guest vocalists.

Here’s the video for the song “Something,” featuring Lalah Hathaway, who delivers an absolutely stunning performance over top of the absolutely smoking band.

Starting with just vocals and a Rhodes, the track builds from a smooth groove to funky jam. League keeps things tied together with a fat pocket and a tight riff groove later in the tune. Check out the 6:19 mark where Hathaway gets the whole band to go nuts.

  4. Lalah’s vocal ability is truly amazing! It is truly a blessing to see her sing with one of my favorite bands!

  5. Lalah is a beast on this track. I ain’t ever heard no s..t like this. I done listened to this song most of the day. Sparky Puppy is amazing. I am now a fan.

  6. As a bass player and a lover of music, I have to repect the gift these guys and gals have, but this tune left me cold. The groove was ponderous and uninspireing. I felt the band were just being held in rather than being let loose to ‘go nuts’. Just an opinion and in no way am I intending to belittle or rubbish these musicians.
