Nathan East Debuts “Sir Duke” from Upcoming Solo Album

Nathan East album coverWe reported last August that Nathan East was working on his first solo album. Now we know a date. Nathan East will be released on March 25, 2014.

“It’s a celebration of my musical friends and my musical life over 30 years’ worth of experiences and influences,” East told Billboard. “The one thing I’ve learned is that I love a collaborative effort, the spirit of making music with a lot of great musicians in the room.”

Steve Wonder’s “Sir Duke” is one of the tracks on the album. East and Yamaha Entertainment have debuted this track in advance of the release:

East is joined by two of his Fourplay bandmates on the album, keyboardist Bob James and guitarist Chuck Loeb. Musical guests include Stevie Wonder (on harmonica), Sarah Bareilles and Michael McDonald. East’s 13 year old son Noah makes his debut on the album as well.

  1. I love the reharmonization of the opening statement the second time around.

  2. The melodic phrasing, tone and solo are all exceptional. I don’t care for the modulation in the unison section, though.

  3. Awesome arrangement!

  4. Very clever and fresh! . . . good stuff, and it’s always to hear a well done version of a any great piece of work by an icon!

  5. Damn! I just love those added chords at the final chorus!

  6. Nathan’s great.. But guess this is coming to an elevator near you.. Cheers

  7. And I was happy just to nail the original version. This is awesome

  8. it’s smooth but it sounds like it’s done right – real players, no cheesy drum loops, Love the reharm/key change thing on the break – sounds like he had some serious arrangers on the case. should be a great album if this is any indication.
