Bass of the Week: CG Lutherie Sequel 5-String Hollow Body Fretless
I got a tip to check out CG Lutherie, a French bass builder, and I’m glad I did. The company’s Sequel bass is an interesting take on a hollow body with multiple sound holes on the bass side of the instrument.
This 5-string fretless Sequel is built with a black limba body a neck of garapa and rosewood. It’s tied together with an ebony fingerboard, bridge, and tailpiece. The fingerboard has an extended section that runs along the B-string to act as a built-in thumb rest. The only metal hardware is a set of Hipshot Ultralight tuners.
CG Lutherie rounds the Sequel out with an active piezo pickup and preamp with bass, mid, and treble controls.

Beautiful! I’d love to hear it.
Tasteful minimalism – very cool.
WoW stunning!
One of the most interesting basses I’ve seen here in a while…I’d love to play it. Not sure about that bridge design, but an all wood bridge is something I’ve contemplated for a while.
very cool. I’d love to play that.
Interesting concept…weird wood choice…ugly design
