Epiphone Announces Limited Edition Jack Casady Signature Bass in Alpine White
Epiphone is celebrating legendary bassist Jack Casady once again with a limited edition version of his signature hollowbody bass. The limited edition 2014 Jack Casady Bass will come in Alpine White with a six-layer white/black body binding further accented by black plastic hardware.
Casady, who turns 70 this year, helped design the bass and was most instrumental in building its pickup.
“We spent about a year and a half developing it,” he told us in our Profiles in Tone interview. “It’s an alnico magnet pickup that I designed. I boosted the magnetic power on it like I used to do with my basses like the Guild ones that were modified. I brought more power out of the pickup because it’s a low impedance bass. Low impedance has a more full, high fidelity tone and larger range, however it didn’t have the power that a high impedance pickup has. So I used really heavy gauge windings and that brought the thickness up to the sound. Then we placed it on the sweet spot.”
The pickup is matched with a VariGain control to choose the impedance output of the pickup. Other features include a maple body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, 3-point adjustable bridge, and 17:1 cloverleaf machine heads.
The Epiphone Limited-Edition 2014 Jack Casady Bass in Alpine White will be shipping soon with a US MSRP of $1,165.

I have the silverburst model and I’ve owned the Black one. This bass is truly my sound and nothing else has even come close. It’d be an honor to own this one. I’m adding this to my wishlist & to one day own one. I’ll also be nick naming it “The White Pony”
Didn’t this used to be called the Les Paul bass?
I have a gold JC bass and like it a lot. It has great tonal range. I have a set of flat wounds on it. My only complaint is that the bass is “neck heavy.” If you forget to hold up the neck, it will plunge toward the floor. Just something to be aware of. I’m just curious that this bass lists for about $400 more than the regular JCs.
