Eastman Releases VB95 Eastman Pro Bass

Eastman VB95 Eastman Pro BassEastman Guitars debuted a pair of new instruments at Summer NAMM this year including the VB95 Eastman Pro Bass.

Designed with the touring player or weekend warrior in mind, the new double bass features a fully carved spruce top with gamba corners, a solid laminate back and ribs, and a solid ebony fingerboard.

The bass’s body is finished in an amber/chestnut antique varnish for warm aesthetics. Eastman fits the VB95 Pro with solid brass German-tooled tuning machines, an adjustable bridge, and Spirocore strings. It also comes with their BB301 carbon fiber bow and a CB50 deluxe padded gig bag.

The VB95 Eastman Pro Bass will be available with a MSRP or $4,310.

    Solid laminate? Kinda like fresh frozen!

    • I take it they want to distinguish between grades of plywood… layers of solid wood as opposed to some kind of layered particle board stuff. But you are right, the words are perfectly self-cancelling.

    “Solid laminate” is a typo. The website says the back and ribs are laminated.

    Not sure how this is made but for those folks unfamiliar with inexpensive string basses, you will normally find them in two different flavors. One is with laminated plywood sides and back, with a carved wood top. The other common variation is with all laminated wood. Don’t expect a fabulous sound out these babies – anything built like a file cabinet is pretty much going to sound like one, too. I think $4300 is a little steep for a beginner bass myself, but I haven’t bought a cheap bass in a long time…
