Acoustic David Bowie with Gail Ann Dorsey: “Heroes” (Live)

In celebration of Gail Ann Dorsey’s birthday today, we’re looking back to a terrific acoustic performance of David Bowie’s “Heroes,” which took place in October 1996.

Bowie is on acoustic guitar, with a bottlecap taped to the bottom of his shoe for percussion. Reeves Gabrels is also on guitar, and of course, the wonderful Gail Ann is on bass and backing vocals.

Even better, this performance was part of the 10th annual Bridge School Benefit concert organized by Neil Young and his wife, Pegi Young, to help raise money for children with special needs.

Happy birthday, Ms. Dorsey!

  1. that was grand! Bowie’s voice is so singular.

Not a big Bowe fan; but he has a few songs that I would consider very good. Gail Ann’s bass line is perfect (imo) on this version. She has a great voice for the echo parts. A melodic bass groove to a good tune. No question about it.

  3. Just love hearing that stripped down version, and Gail Ann Dorsey is the perfect addition to that tune !
