Fodera has announced the latest in their Select Series of instruments with the Lacewood Emperor 5 Deluxe Select. Similar to their Standard Series, the Select Series instruments are built in small batches of custom shop instruments with limited options to reduce on wait time and cost.

As its name implies, the Lacewood Emperor 5 Deluxe Select will be a five-string version of the company’s Emperor model fitted with a 5A lacewood top. Fodera will be using White Limba for its body.

“Tonally White Limba sounds like a hypothetical blend of Ash and Mahogany providing some of the warmth of Mahogany with the percussive authority of Ash,” they write on their blog. “All specifications of this small run of Emperor 5 Selects are identical to those found in our Deluxe (Dovetail neck joint) Custom instruments. As an added bonus, we will be using a double (black / maple) pinstripe between the body and top.”

Other features of the bass include a 3-piece hard rock maple neck with angled-back peghead, an Indian Rosewood fingerboard with Mother-of-Pearl dot inlays, and gold custom shop Fodera hardware. It will be fitted with Fodera/Duncan dual coil pickups.

The Fodera Lacewood Emperor 5 Deluxe Select is available for preorder now with a list price of $7,950.

[Editor’s note: A previous version of this article listed an option for Aguilar DCB pickups. Fodera has clarified that they are not an option.]
