Nina June & Fortheloveofbass: It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back)

We’re excited about a new project called “fortheloveofbass”. Started by Ivo Schot, the concept is to make pop songs work with only a singer and a bassist.

“As a musician and bass player, my greatest desire is to connect and communicate. In my opinion the best way to do this, is to play a good song,” he explains. “When a vocalist and instrumentalist perform a song together, there is an intimate connection. [Fortheloveofbass] is the connection between vocalist and instrumentalist. It is the glorification of the low end. But most of all, it is about the challenge of making a good song work with just a bass guitar and an emphasis on the song.”

The project kicks off today with this video of Schot with vocalist Nina June performing a hauntingly beautiful version of the Eurythmics’ “It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back)”. The bassist creates perfectly complementary lines to emphasize June’s sultry voice.

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.
