Talking Technique: Permutation Variation

In the last lesson, we introduced the Permutation Exercise. This time we’ll talk about some more pattern variations to increase your dexterity.

The permutation exercise can be played to drill down on lots of different fingerings that come in handy. We’ll be practicing the concept across strings and by implementing it with the whole tone and half-whole diminished scales.

Be ready to get those fingers working, and don’t miss out on today’s tip!

Ariane – I really dig your teaching style and approach – welcome to no treble. I believe someone asked as it related to the Permutation Exercise video if there is any way we could see your right hand in the shot. I know you run a strict 1-2-1-2 but to see it would help I think. Also, do you have any recommendation for a metronome specific to help bass players practice?
    Peace

  5. Recently discovered your technique lessons here and I repeat what others have already said: these videos are awesome! They have become a new motivation for me to practice more.

I will buy soon your music theory book, just as a little ‘Danke schoen’ for your work :) Cheers!
