Crowdfunding Campaign Created for Slain Bassist Anthony Tolson
A fundraising campaign has been set up for the family of Detroit bassist Anthony Tolson, who was murdered on Christmas Eve on his way to see his children for the holiday. Tolson, who toured with artists like Ne-Yo and Young Jeezy, had finished playing for a church service when he was killed in a carjacking. He was 33 years old.
The assailants stole his SUV which also had his bass and gifts for his three kids. “It’s just a shock, that somebody would do something like this, especially on a night like that,” said the bassist’s friend D.W. Bass. “He was a phenomenal bass player. You could tell just from looking at him (that) this is not something he’s doing just to get money. He loved his job.”
Tolson began his musical journey on steel drums at just 8 years old before switching to bass in his teens. He played for private parties and recording sessions before moving on to working with major artists. His resumé includes work with Ne-Yo, Kelis, Young Jeezy, J. Moss, Keri Hilson, Fabolous, and more.
The crowd-sourced GoFundMe campaign set up for Tolson is raising funds for his funeral expenses as well as benefit his children. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Anthony Tolson.
I didn’t know Anthony but by this picture what a fine young man in the prime of his life at 33 years of age with family, loving his job as a bassist trying to make a honest living.
After playing for a church service he was killed in a carjacking on Christmas Eve , this makes me question my own beliefs.
This past year 2015 was bad for me in a way I cant write about but I made it by then I hear this and the thugs that did this for whatever reason just sickens me.
This world is no longer the world I grew up in being 60 soon.
