Fodera Unveils the Monarch-P Bass
Fodera is gearing up for the Winter NAMM show, where they will be presenting the new Monarch-P model. Based on their Monarch four-string bass, the Monarch-P is a Standard model that aims to couple a vintage split-coil sound with Fodera’s playability.
The bass will be built with a classic tone-wood combination of an alder body, a maple neck, and an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The top is created from book-matched Ivorywood. Several design modifications from the original Monarch bass set the P model apart with unique body contours, a slightly thicker neck, and 22 frets.
Its passive electronics include an in-house wired circuit with 250k solid shaft pots, a 0.047uf capacitor and 1/4” input jack. Fodera picked an Aguilar AG 4P-60 pickup with early 60’s P-Bass tone in mind. “All of the hardware is completely proprietary including our high-mass Standard bridge,” Fodera states. “Additionally the Monarch-P is built with a control cavity so that if you wanted to add a preamp down the road there is a place to do it. Finally, the Monarch-P was crafted with no natural shell products which makes it the very first Fodera that can be shipped internationally without requiring a costly and time-consuming permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.”
The Fodera Monarch-P will be built in the company’s custom shop as part of their Standard series. It’s priced at $3,995 and is available for pre-order with shipping beginning in April and June.

I’m sure that this bass plays and sounds nice, but it has all the visual appeal of an Ibanez Gio.
Let’s see.. This bass, or a new Ric, and an Eden bass rig..tough choice. LOL
I disagree. I think the bass is beautiful in its understated simplicity. And as you noted, it’s pretty much a given that this bass will sound and feel wonderful. I don’t need to have highly figured tops to satisfy my aesthetics. However if that’s your thing, I have seen other examples in Fodera’s newborn gallery that feature various exotic tops along with a singular P pickup, it’s just going to cost another 2-3 grand to get it.
I think it looks nice too, except for the headstock. Reminds me of the entry level Japanese basses like a cheap Yamaha I used to have, so I can see where the ibanez reference comes from!
