NS Design Unveils NXTa Active Series Omni Bass and Double Bass Models

NS Design has teamed up with Mi-Si Electronics Design to introduce the NXTa Active series of instruments, including versions of the company’s Omni Bass and Double Bass models. Central to the new series is the introduction of battery-free, high-performance active electronics. The circuitry works is powered by plugging into a wall socket for one minute at a time.

“Operationally, for Active mode, the user plugs the supplied charger into an AC outlet for 60 seconds to power the circuit for up to 16 hours of performance time,” NS Design explains. “The instrument can then plug straight into any amp, low or high impedance, no direct box necessary. Since there is no signal loss over the full frequency spectrum of the instrument, the fundamentals of every note remain clear and strong, even with extra-long cables.”

It also works in passive mode just like the original NXT series and can be used with an amplifier with a high impedance input or any amp with a direct box. The company adds that “in either mode, an important facet of the NXTa circuitry is “eco-friendliness” and convenience. NXTa instruments are still “green” and battery-free, eliminating the hassle and cost of batteries while helping protect our environment.”

The NXTa Omni Bass and Double Bass each come in four and five string versions and carry most of the same specs as their NXT counterparts. The new Omni is an electric upright bass with a 34-inch scale and TransRadius fingerboard to get close to the feel of a bass guitar. It’s built with a solid maple body and neck that are fitted with a Polar Pickup system.

The NXTa Double Bass is aimed to feel more like a traditional double bass with a full 41.73″ scale length. It’s also fitted with the Polar Pickup system.

Both the NXTa Omni Bass and Double Bass are made in the Czech Republic. They’re available now with MSRP’s of $2,289 to $2,499 for the Double Bass and $2,439 to $2,609 for the Omni.
