Squier Adds New Bass Models to Classic Vibe Series
Fender has refreshed the Squier Classic Vibe Series with several decade-specific models of their flagship instruments. For bassists, that includes the Classic Vibe ’60s Jazz Bass, the Classic Vibe ’60s Precision Bass, the Classic Vibe ’70s Jazz Bass, and the Classic Vibe Bass VI.
“We used our in-house expertise to redesign all the pickups for the Classic Vibe Series, which are also Squier-branded now,” Squier VP Category Manager Billy Martinez said. “The idea behind the refresh was to give the modern player a more classic option, with a tip of the hat to the ’60s and ’70s styling Fender is known for, at a more accessible price point.”
The lineup has several variations of each bass: the ’60s Jazz also comes in fretless version, while the ’60s Precision and ’70s Jazz each have left-handed versions available. The ’70s Jazz Bass also has a five-string version. Common features for the entire series includes Fender-designed alnico pickups, “C”-neck shapes, narrow-tall frets, and a 9.5″ fretboard radius.
Most bassists are familiar with the Precision and Jazz models, but the Bass VI is more obscure. Originally produced from 1961 to 1975, the six-string is tuned an octave lower than a standard guitar and features a narrower string spacing as well as a vintage-style tremolo. “This throwback Squier model also features 1960s inspired headstock markings, nickel-plated hardware, and a slick vintage-tinted gloss neck finish for an old-school aesthetic vibe,” the company writes.
The Squier Classic Vibe basses are available now with price points ranging from $349.99 to $429.99.
