Video Premiere: Deep Energy Orchestra’s “Resolve”

The Deep Energy Orchestra, led by bassist Jason Everett, has just released their second album, entitled The Return. Today, we’re happy to premiere the performance video for the album’s penultimate track, “Resolve.”

The Return is filled out with a talented cast of musicians: Fareed Haque (Billy Cobham, Zawinul Syndicate), V. Selvaganesh (Shakti with John McLaughlin), Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Neyveli Radhakrishna (Jonas Hellborg), Ujwal Nagar (Advaita), Suhail Yusuf Khan, and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra. Together they work through Everett’s music, starting with the epic 17-minute suite “Moksha: The Elimination of All Duality.”

Everett performs on his custom seven-string fretless OM bass as well as a six-string. In this clip for “Resolve,” he utilizes the OM bass to provide bass lines, chordal comping, and solos.

The Return is available now on CD and as a digital download (Bandcamp, iTunes, and Amazon MP3).

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.

Thank you Bill! McLaughlin was a huge inspiration for me. There influences of Shakti, Mahavishnu, and Passion Grace and Fire are present. The entire first album was recorded live and is on youtube. I appreciate your kind words! Jason

I very rarely dig “solo” bass, but this drew me in right from the get go. Very nice.
