Bass of the Week: Manne Guitars Acoustibass Satin Special 4

Manne Guitars Acoustibass

Sometimes you look at a bass and can just imagine how it sounds. This one, I think, sounds like chocolate.

This Manne Guitars Acoustibass Satin Special 4 is a fretless built with a sycamore body and poplar burl top in a satin finish. It’s constructed by hollowing out the body first, then capping it with the top. “This type of construction gives the timbre of the instrument an acoustic characteristic,” the company writes.

Its multi-laminate neck has an asymmetrical shape for comfortable playing with a thin phenolic resin fingerboard. Manne fits the bass with a magnetic pickup in the bridge position as well as a piezoelectric pickup in the bridge for a full sonic spectrum. “The circuit, reduced to a minimum, with a volume, a balance, and a tone, offers a wide range of sounds, from metallic to nasal, to double bass.”
