Pino Palladino, Blake Mills, & Sam Gendel: Man From Molise

Ever since Pino Palladino and Blake Mills announced their collaborative album, we’ve been dying to hear more. Now the duo has unveiled a live performance video for “Man From Molse” featuring the bassist on his iconic fretless Music Man StingRay.

The song, like many on the album, began with a composition by Palladino that was reworked over time. Mills and Palladino reworked the idea by rebuilding it at half speed.

“What you hear now has none of the original music in it,” says Palladino. “It definitely had an influence on us hearing that stuff slowed down, how it syncopates and swings, in a way that we couldn’t possibly come up with.”

Saxophonist Sam Gendel comes in to double the melody and add to the ambiance. Notes With Attachments is out on March 12th.

Nice, but those boys should have enjoyed some hot coffee before they recorded.

Pino defines bass eloquence and grace

  3. VERY interesting piece. I especially liked the use of the shruti box.

I may be showing my age here, but am I the only one who associates Pino with the P-bass, not the MM?

Pino was playing a MM fretless with Paul Young about 35 – 40 years ago. Was he playing a P-bass before that?

Rather interesting… I totally dig it though.
