Paul Thompson: Breaking Down the Bass Line to “Lovely Day”

Paul Thompson (aka pdbass) puts together some fantastic videos breaking down iconic bass lines. In this one, he takes on the work of Jerry Knight on Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day.”

“Let’s break down one of the most recognizable bass lines in music and what makes it special,” Thompson shares. “From the line itself to the turnaround to the distinct rhythm, I’m digging into Bill Withers’ classic “Lovely Day” from 1977’s Menagerie album (Columbia), along with the unsung bassist that played it.”

Paul is such a cool dude. Excellent player himself. And no doubt has one of the best you tube bass Chanel’s around. I look forward to each and every one of them. Thank you Paul
