Dead & Company Announce Final Tour
After The Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary “Fare Thee Well” concerts, most of the alumni (minus Phil Lesh) decided to continue on as Dead & Company. It’s been seven years since the offshoot group’s inception, and now they’re ready to close the chapter. The band has announced its final tour.
“I want you to know that this has all been because of you,” drummer Mickey Hart wrote on Facebook. “When we saw what Fare Thee Well meant to all of you, and how good it felt to be back together, we knew there was a chance for a second life, another dance around the sun. Little did I know the life Dead & Company would have. I’m so looking forward to the festivities that lie ahead. This tour will be one for the books…“
After Playing in the Sand in Cancun during January, Dead & Company will be heading out on their final run starting on May 19th with two nights at The Forum in Los Angeles, California. The journey will cross the South to reach Georgia and cut north with a detour into the Midwest. They’ll then make their way across the States once again to hit the Pacific Northwest. The Final Tour will end where the legacy of the Dead began in San Francisco, California, on July 14th and 15th.
When Phil Lesh opted out of the band, the space was filled by the mighty Oteil Burbridge, who has faithfully served the music while adding his own input. His resume includes work with The Allman Brothers Band and the Tedeschi Trucks Band, but being in Dead & Company opened his eyes to the lyrics and compositions in their catalog. Burbridge recently stated he’ll be tracking an album of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter ballads this December.
