NICKO Releases Debut Album, “NICKO_1”
NICKO has just released his solo debut, NICKO_1, a bass-driven album inspired by a love of classic video game soundtracks. The instrumental record blends the sounds of retro synths and drum machines with contemporary pop for an upbeat feel and memorable hooks.
“I had never made an album completely by myself before this, but I’ve always had a clear idea of how I want to sound,” the bassist explains. “Developing the beats and refining the synth sounds was a lot of fun, but learning how to mix my music; really getting into the nuts and bolts of making it sound how I’ve always imagined it… it’s been a long but very gratifying journey.”
NICKO, who has provided the low end for artists like LOWES and singer/songwriter Molly Warburton, utilizes various techniques to bring the music to life. His rolling slap lines create forward motion, while his fingerstyle helps to convey his thoughtful melodic approach. Check it out on the opening track, “Rise & Shine.”
NICKO_1 is out now on digital platforms including iTunes and Amazon MP3.
