Cissy Strut Jam: Groove Like George Porter Jr. of The Meters

In this lesson, we’ll channel the power of George Porter Jr. to get our funk on. We’ll improvise groovy bits for a New Orleans-style funk jam by using rhythmic and harmonic interplay: dead notes, octave movement — all the good stuff to get that authentic feel.

This should help you emulate some of the moves during the solo section of “Cissy Strut” by The Meters, so once you learn the head of the tune, this will carry you through the rest.

Enjoy, and keep it groovy!
