Sire Announces GB Series Acoustic/Electric Basses

Sire GB5 4-string Bass Black

Sire has introduced the GB Series, which they designed as an electric bass that produces an acoustic sound. The lineup includes four and five-string models available in fretted or fretless versions.

“It aims to reproduce the rich resonance and upright bass tones from chambered bodies,” the company writes. “It’s an excellent choice for those pursuing unplugged or smooth jazz music.”

Each version is built with a mahogany body featuring a solid spruce top. The three-piece neck is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges. The fretless necks are lined, while the fretted and fretless have white pearloid dot inlays. Sire ships the fretless basses with flatwound strings.

Electronics on the whole GB lineup include a Vividx-B preamp with a piezo under the bridge saddle. The control configuration has volume, treble, middle, and bass controls with a phase switch.

The Sire Marcus Miller GB5 series has prices ranging from $559 to $759.

Another review with every bit of information EXCEPT if available in lefty. Can you PLEASE include us in on things? Or at least say no information about a lefty … I’m sure there are enough lefty players that it would be worth adding a few words.
