Adrian Belew To Revisit King Crimson Music with Tony Levin, Danny Carey, and Steve Vai

King Crimson morphed several times throughout its five decades. The prog rock titans reinvented themselves every few years, only to fold up and reform again. During the ’80s, Robert Fripp recruited guitarist Adrian Belew, drummer Bill Bruford, and bassist Tony Levin to create the albums Discipline, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair.
Fripp said that the band’s latest incarnation was its final one. However, Belew has announced a new project called Beat that will perform music from his era in King Crimson. Levin will be joining him for it as well as guitarist Steve Vai and Tool drummer Danny Carey.
The project has even been endorsed by Fripp, who posted about it on Facebook.
“This is the project that Adrian Belew called me about last Autumn, a project which I support and fully encourage, and discussed with Steve Vai recently at McCabes in Santa Monica (3march2024),” he wrote. “Even, I suggested the name.”
Only one show has been announced so far for Humphrey’s Concerts By The Bay in San Diego on September 17th. Details beyond that are scant. We’ll keep you updated as more becomes available.
