Bass of the Week: AC Guitars Krell 5/34

AC Guitars Krell 5/34 Bass

It’s been a few years since we featured a bass from AC Guitars in this column, but luthier Alan Cringean has been continuing to produce incredible instruments from his shop in Moffat, Scotland. Case in point: this stunning Krell 5/34.

The fretless five-string has a black ART (Acrylic Resin Treated) maple top that starkly contrasts its swamp ash body. The dark top is matched, however, by its ebony fingerboard. The neck itself is made from maple and wenge.

For electronics, Cringean went with a set of his own ACG pickups – the RFB in the bridge and the FB in the neck – and an East Uni-Pre 4K. Finally, an ACG/Hipshot bridge and Gotoh Resolite tuners round out the bass.

  1. Beautiful as always, AC make gorgeous basses. I live not far from Moffat and when I’m in a position to get a custom bass that’s where I’m heading ?
