The Dead Daisies Cover Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and More on New Album, “Lookin’ For Trouble”

Inspiration can strike anywhere, but you can bet it hits hard at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The hallowed recording space was where icons like Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and Etta James cut timeless classics. The Dead Daisies visited the studio and “felt the weight of history around them,” and a late-night jam session quickly invigorated them into creating a whole album.
Lookin’ For Trouble finds the band putting their own fiery spin on legendary blues songs by Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and more.
“This album is our love letter to the blues,” says vocalist John Corabi. “When I first heard blues, it was through bands like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones. The deeper I researched my heroes, the deeper I got into the history of this music. The blues is the soul of rock ‘n’ roll – it’s in everything we do.”
The Australian-American rock supergroup lineup has evolved over the years with players who performed with The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Dio, and more. The current roster features bassist Michael Devin, best known for his time with Whitesnake. He’s also performed or recorded with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lynch Mob, The Guess Who, and more.
Devin shared his thoughts on the first single from the album, a cover of “Crossroads” by Robert Johnson.
“Crossroads by Delta bluesman Robert Johnson has created a myth so large that it’s been etched into the very foundation of rock ‘n’ roll lore,” he said. “Many bands have covered ‘Crossroads’ over the years, now we’ve covered it in our own way.”
Lookin’ For Trouble is out now CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music, and Amazon Music).
