The Beatles’ First U.S. Concert, New Gear & More: This Week’s Top Bass Stories
In this week’s Top 10 roundup on No Treble, we’ve got it all: killer performances, fresh gear, and a lesson on why you should learn to use a pick.
The most-read article was vintage footage of The Beatles, live from their first U.S. concert in 1964. Paul McCartney and the rest of the Fab Four performed for 8,000 rabid fans at the Washington Coliseum with a set list that ran from “Roll Over Beethoven” to “Twist and Shout.” “McCartney’s tone is punchy, the band is raw, and the whole thing feels like it could fly off the rails at any moment,” Jody points out.
Next up we had our bass of the week. The Daddy Mojo Rosetta Archtop Bass sports a short-scale design with an interesting adjustable neck system based on the Stauffer Romantic parlor neck joint. Other awesome features include a figured walnut body, Novak H22 Gold Foil pickups, and cool fretboard inlays.
In the way of new gear, Grestch launched the Electromatic CVT Bass Double-Cut and DR Strings unveiled the Black Dragon multi-scale string set. If you need a music fix, don’t miss the videos from Hadrien Feraud, Charles Berthoud, and Paul Jackson.
