In Memory of Sam Rivers, We Revisit This Explosive Limp Bizkit Set

Losing Sam Rivers hit me harder than I expected. I’ve been revisiting some of my favorite Limp Bizkit moments, and this Live Set from 2021 feels different now. Sam was the heartbeat of that band. His tone, his feel, the way he held everything together was the glue that made all the madness make sense.

This set from Santiago is a perfect reminder of what made Limp Bizkit special. Fred Durst has the crowd in the palm of his hand, Wes Borland is doing his weird and brilliant thing, and Sam is right there in the middle of it all, steady and powerful. From “Break Stuff” and “Nookie”, it’s pure late 90s energy that still hits just as hard today. The whole set is worth watching start to finish, but if you only have time for one song, START HERE

We lost a real one. I’m revisiting this show not just as a fan but as someone who learned a lot about bass by listening to Sam Rivers. Performances like this are why he mattered and why he always will.
