Spector Brings Back the SB-1 for Its 50th Anniversary in a 50-Bass Custom Shop Run

2026 will be a big year for milestones, including the 50th anniversary of Spector basses. The company is celebrating with a limited return of the SB-1, its first-ever production bass guitar, which will be recreated in the Spector Custom Shop.
“Originally designed by Stuart Spector and Alan Charney in Brooklyn during the mid-1970s, the SB-1 predates the iconic NS series and is the foundation of the Spector legacy,” the company shares. “This limited Custom Shop run brings the historic SB-1 design back with only 50 instruments being built by Spector’s New York Custom Shop team.”
The bass stays faithful to the SB-1’s original specs, including the body shape, pickup placement, vintage-style headstock, and neck-through construction. Spector will offer it in four wood options: walnut, maple, curly cherry, and rainbow alder. The variety pays homage to the original materials while offering new alternatives.
Other features include a single DiMarzio Model One pickup, passive electronics, and vintage-style hardware. Spector ships each SB-1 with a custom-made G&G hard case with the Spector Custom Shop logo stitched inside.
The Spector Custom Shop 50th Anniversary SB-1 is limited to 50 units, with 15 of walnut, 15 of maple, 10 of curly cherry, and 15 of rainbow alder. They have a street price of $5,999.99.
