Bass of the Week: Schecter’s FreeZesicle Is Ricky “Freeze” Smith’s Purple Funk Machine

This week, we’re checking out a sleek funk machine made for Ricky “Freeze” Smith of Morris Day and the Time. The Schecter FreeZesicle delivers ice-cold grooves in style with its Freeze Purple finish.
“It’s a direct and deliberate homage to the incomparable Prince, meticulously crafted to honor his enduring legacy,” Freeze’s website states. “Every curve and contour of this bass resonates with the spirit of the iconic artist, making it more than just an instrument—it’s a piece of musical history.”
The FreeZesicle is built with a swamp ash body, a Canadian hard-rock maple neck, and an ebony fingerboard featuring a gold Pearloid crown at the 12th fret and a heart at the 19th Fret. It’s fitted with EMG pickups and an EMG 3-band B64EQ preamp.
