Back in October, we shared an incredible video with Richard Bona and Raul Midón performing “Don’t Take It That Way“. Here they are again, performing “Good Times”. Good times indeed.
What Richard Bona can do with a bass is pretty much supernatural. Here’s New Steps Ahead performing one of the Mike Stern’s tunes, “Wishing Well”, which features the Stern and Bona prominently before the rest of the band kicks in. That band also includes Mike Mainieri on vibes, Bill Evans on sax and Steve Smith on drums. So so good.
In honor of Richard Bona’s birthday today, here’s a fun live performance with Richard laying down a sweet groove on the Raul Midón tune, “Don’t Take It That Way”. The performance was filmed at Jazz in Marciac in 2011. Happy birthday, Mr. Bona! Here’s to many, many more years of great music.
Richard Bona is far and away one of the greatest living bassists… and more than that, he’s the epitome of the total musician. Here’s Richard with his band performing songs from his album, The Ten Shades of Blues in October, 2009. Enjoy.
Richard Bona Group: Live in San Sebastian It has been a while since we’ve featured a video by Richard Bona. Time to fix that. Here’s Bona and his group performing at the San Sebastián International Jazz Festival in 2006. I think my favorite part comes just past the 10 minute mark. This one is fun. Enjoy.
Tomorrow is Jaco’s birthday, so we’re thinking a lot about the world’s greatest bass player around here. And so here’s an audio track of Richard Bona playing one of Jaco’s compositions, “Continuum”. (He throws in some extra Jaco stuff too). So much bass greatness, all in one spot.

It offers a little more in the curves department with subtle tweaks to set itself apart from the classic design. Available in 4- or 5-string versions, the De Gier BeBop comes standard with an alder...
Steps Ahead took the stage at the 2005 Jazz Vitoria with Richard Bona and Mike Stern, and performed some amazing music, like this. The band also features Bill Evans on sax, Mike Mainieri on vibraphone and Steve Smith on drums. Enjoy.
Guitarist Mike Stern’s new record All Over the Place features a veritable smorgasbord of bass talent: Esperanza Spalding, Richard Bona, Victor Wooten, Anthony Jackson, Dave Holland, Tom Kennedy, Will Lee and Victor Bailey. Like a kid in the rhythm section candy shop, Stern audibly delights in playing with these guys. Further, the quality of Stern’s writing, the variety of grooves...
Jazz guitar vet Mike Stern has a new album coming out on June 19, 2012, and bass fans have a lot to look forward to with this release. All Over the Place features eight different bassists on the 11-song release, including Esperanza Spalding, Richard Bona, Victor Wooten, Anthony Jackson, Dave Holland, Tom Kennedy, Will Lee and Victor Bailey. Stern recruited...
