MG Bass Guitars has a special talent for combining woods and shapes to create functional works of art. This New Extreman is a prime example of that.

This week we’re checking out a beautiful five-string archtop built by Marusya Guitars. The gorgeous instrument was hand-built in Perm, Russia with mahogany for the body back and sides and a spruce top.

Every Jerzy Drozd bass I’ve ever seen has left me in awe. The luthier’s elegant shapes and unreal finishes capture the imagination, and his newest creation is no exception.

This week we’re taking a look at a new limited edition 12-string bass built by Musicvox called the Space Cadet. This version features a 3-tone sunburst over a flame maple top for a dynamite combo.

Carl Thompson is a pioneer of bass building, and he’s still pushing the limits and building world-class instruments. This week we’re checking out his latest build, made for Brian Kelly, who got a Full-Frills model with an enormous 38-inch scale.

Singleton Guitars’ Stellar Funk5 bass features a killer purple and pearl yin yang design. It’s hand-crafted by luthier Mark Singleton, who built it with a Western Red cedar body, a flamed maple neck, and a bubinga fingerboard.

This week we’re checking out an amazing seven-string bass built by Chris Benavente for the great Al Caldwell. The beastly instrument features an alder hollow body design that is four inches thick and topped with a gorgeous piece of 5A quilted maple.

Daniel Brunn shared his new six-string Titan bass built by Robin Manton of Manton Customs and we were instantly intrigued. As modern as it looks, the instrument is inspired in part by instruments from the 17th century.

Stradi is known for their beautiful blend of modern and classical elements in their designs, but this week we’re taking a look at a more traditional electric bass called the Reformer - our bass of the week.

Thundercat’s bass is as unique as his playing, so this week we’re taking a look at his signature model from Ibanez. The massive six-string hollow body is made in the company’s Japanese custom shop with curly maple for the back and sides and quilted maple for its top.

Master luthier Gerald Marleaux is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Marleaux Basses this year, and he continues to experiment and dream up new instruments. This week we’re checking out the MBass Big Hollow 5-String Fretless.

Many entry-level basses are built in factories in Indonesia, but the country also has plenty of highly skilled luthiers. This week we’re checking out the Odieng Red Viper 5 that is absolutely decked out.
