One of my favorite Facebook groups is “Support Small Bass Builders.” There are plenty of luthiers there that you’ve heard of, but there are also plenty you may not know. Karel Fošumpaur posted his latest 5-string there and it stopped me in my tracks.

Harley Benton has introduced the Marquess series of basses. The basses are described as delivering a “sound, feel and look that’s fit for kings and queens of the bass guitar” while coming in at under $400.

Ibanez has brought back the Iron Label series of instruments including three new guitars and two basses. The metal-inspired instruments come with a stripped-down feature set in all-black finishes.

Ernie Ball Music Man has teamed up with Darkglass Electronics to unveil the DarkRay 4-string Bass. Available in Obsidian Black and Granite Stone finishes, the bass takes the StingRay Special model and fits it with new electronics.

Genzler Amplification has announced a new line of bass effect pedals starting with the 4 On the Floor Classic Bass Overdrive. The design brings Jeff Genzler and Andy Field back together and along with Genzler Amp engineer Scott Andres.

Scott Hayes dropped us a line saying his pal Eli Endres has some serious bass-building skills. To prove his point, he shared this eight-string bass that the luthier just completed.

Thomas Eich is celebrating his 35th anniversary in the music industry with the EICH Amplification Limited Black Edition Series. The series includes three amps – the T500, T900, and T1000 – as well as the BC112Pro combo and the 212S cabinet.

Spector has expanded their line of Bantam basses with a new five-string model. Similar to the four-string, the Bantam 5 Bass has a medium 32-inch scale length and a chambered body. Spector says this delivers a lightweight and comfortable instrument.

Hamstead Soundworks has unveiled the Comet, a four-knob drive pedal that has both transparent and character drive voices. The company says the pedal can be “molded from boutique sounding overdrive with a vocal midrange to a rich and creamy fuzz.”

This week we’re checking out the Dylan model by Nichols Guitar Company. While the bass comes with several options, this particular version is a four-string featuring a swamp ash body topped with Engelmann Spruce and Rosewood laminates.

G&L Guitars is showing some love for lefty bassists with a new southpaw version of their Tribute Fallout Bass. Originally launched in 2019, the Fallout Bass is a short-scale model loaded with the company’s Magnetic Field Design humbucker.

Spaceman Effects has launched the Aurora, an analog BBD-style flanger packed with features. That includes two LFO types, two tape emulations, and a static comb filtering option.
