The world lost a visionary and pioneer of the bass world when Rick Turner passed away on April 17, 2022. Steve Lawson had a special relationship with Turner, and he’s just released a tribute album, simply called “Rick”.

Each year, the NAMM TEC Committee honors legendary musicians with the Les Paul Innovation Award. The recipient for 2022 is one of the most influential bassists of all time: Carol Kaye.

Primus has been paying homage to the classic Rush album A Farewell to Kings by playing it in its entirety during their “A Tribute To Kings” tour. Geddy Lee finally got to witness the show and weighed in on the performance.

The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction have teamed up for the Spirits on Fire tour, which will see the bands covering North America over October and November. For each group, it will be their first outing in some years.

Last month it was revealed that Joe Satriani has been in talks with drummer Alex Van Halen about a Van Halen tribute tour. Now we’ve learned that longtime Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has also been approached about it.

The Immediate Family is back with another EP following last year’s self-titled full-length record. “Live From Telefunken Soundstage” was captured at the microphone company’s headquarters in Connecticut in November 2021.

Timothy B. Schmit has returned with another solo album. “Day By Day” was written and recorded during breaks in the Eagles’ touring schedule with Jackson Browne, Lindsey Buckingham, John Fogerty, Jim Keltner, and others.

Or Bareket has returned with his third album as a bandleader. “Sahar” was written and recorded during the downtime of the pandemic and is described as a “decidedly new and fresh artistic trajectory” for the bassist.

After years of taking us all to school, Chuck Rainey has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Berklee College of Music. The legend of the low end was presented with the honorary degree on May 7th.

Last year, it was announced that Thundercat would be touring this summer in support of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now the bass phenom has unveiled a set of headlining concerts alongside the stadium tour.
