Former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman sold several pieces of his gear collection this past weekend for record-breaking prices. Hosted by Julien’s Auctions, the sale had over 1,000 lots from the bassist’s archive. Two items stood out.

Jazz bassist Eric Revis has released his eighth album as a leader, entitled “Slipknots Through a Looking Glass”. The bassist recruited longtime bandmates for the project including Chad Taylor, Kris Davis, Darius Jones, and Bill McHenry.

Troy Sanders and Mastodon are in the process of working on new material, but until that’s done they’re keeping up their momentum with “Medium Rarities”. The 16-song album is a collection of live cuts, B-sides, instrumentals, and covers.

Marilyn Manson has returned with his eleventh studio album, called “We Are Chaos”. The album is the first to feature bassist Juan Alderete, and also includes Ted Russell Kamp.

Pig Destroyer has released a new EP. “The Octagonal Stairway” is the band’s second ever release to feature a bassist, and the first to have Travis Stone, who replaced John Jarvis early last year.

Steve Bailey has returned with a new solo album, or more appropriately, duet album. “Carolina” is an amazing 17-song collection that showcases the six-string wonder with a wide array of artists.

The Austin Bass Hang returns with another informative webinar that will take place on September 6th. Co-hosted by Kevin Smith and Alex Browne, the “Teachers Hang” meeting will feature John Clayton, Jessica Valls, David Neubert, and Ed Friedland.

Metallica has returned with a new album and concert film of epic proportions. “S&M2” is their second live release alongside the San Francisco Symphony is taken from a set of concerts last year marking the 20th anniversary of the original.
