Scary Pockets is back with a new video, and this time it is a funk mashup of the Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker” and Weezer’s “Undone – The Sweater Song.” Bassist Jon Flaugher joins the band on this one, along with guest vocalist Darren Criss.

The great people at Studio Jams shared this video from their archives, and it is fantastic. Here’s bassist Steve Forrest, drummer Roy “Futureman” Wooten, electric violinist Tracy Silverman and the late great guitarist Jef Lee Johnson performing their take on “In A Sentimental Mood.”

Here’s the Barely Jazz Ensemble with special guest Michael Manring performing “Something About Us.” The session took place at the Joe Henderson Lab in the SFJAZZ Center and offers up a great showcase for Michael’s soloing skills.

Vulfpeck has released another song from their upcoming album, Hill Climber, and it is super chill. “Love is a Beautiful Thing” was written by guitarist/vocalist Theo Katzman, who is joined by guest vocalist Monica Martin on the track. As always, Joe Dart lays down the low end behind the band.

I’ve been watching everything I can by The Main Squeeze lately, and this one knocked me out. Check out the band performing “Papa Was A Rolling Stone,” with Jeremiah Hunt doing some serious work on bass while also adding background vocals. This band is flat out amazing!

Kevin sent me this video of Funky Bizness Gang, who filmed this live performance of “I’m Getting Down” on the rooftop of Planetary Café in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Alex Nikolaeff, who we featured in Reader Spotlight back in 2017, backs the band with one funky bass line.

By random chance, I stumbled upon this beautiful video today. I hadn’t heard of Cande Buasso before, but her bass and vocals on this tribute to Luis Alberto Spinetta really caught my attention. This was recorded at the Bicentennial Theater in San Juan, Argentina.

Shaun Munday has a knack for putting together some stellar bass and vocal covers of epic tunes. (Check out his cover of Bill Wither’s “Use Me.”) In celebration of Jimi Hendrix’s birthday on November 27th, Shaun posted this video of him performing “Bold As Love.”
