The Get Right Band: Heart or Bones
Get yourself right and get ready to groove. The Get Right Band has a new album, "Live in Asheville," coming in January, and they shared this video for the song “Heart or Bones” with us. The laid-back, funky jam is glued together by bassist Jesse Gentry, who lays down a fat, simple bass line.
Cody Wright: Nightingale/Improv
Cody Wright shared this solo bass performance of “Nightingale”, with some stunning improv. The result is a combination of incredible musicianship and skill.
Now Vs Now: Dichotomy
I always love getting emails from this bassist Panagiotis Andreou. This time he shared the killer video for the Now Vs Now song, “Dichotomy,” which sounds like the soundtrack to an intense dream.
Berklee Indian Ensemble with Indian Ocean: Jhini
Whenever a Berklee Indian Ensemble video shows up, I watch it immediately. In this clip, the ensemble is joined by Indian Ocean, dubbed the “pioneers of the Indian rock fusion scene.” The combined group performs a new arrangement Indian Ocean’s popular song “Jhini,” with Sharon Renold on bass.
Ellen Andrea Wang: River
“River” is one of Joni Mitchell’s most covered songs, but you’ve never heard it like this. Ellen Andrea Wang lays down a gorgeous bass line while singing the song with a vocal effects processor.
Stuart Clayton: The Wicked Vicar
Stuart Clayton is back with another video in his “Giants of Bass” series. “This video is a performance of ‘The Wicked Vicar’, the Victor Wooten-style piece that I wrote for my 2017 book ‘Giants of Bass,'” Start shares.
Guthrie Govan & Billy Sheehan: Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers
My good friend Steve Lawson shared a video I hadn’t seen before. “More Billy Sheehan amazingness,” Steve shared. “His phrasing on the solo here is extraordinary…” In this clip, Guthrie Govan, Sheehan, and Pete Riley perform Jeff Beck’s “Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers.”
Baba’s Quartet: Mud Blues
No Treble reader Andrea Balasso sent us this video featuring a song from his album, Time To Leave. The band recorded this video as a part of a live stream in September.
Vulfpeck with Chris Thile: Dean Town
Vulfpeck was a guest on Chris Thile’s live radio variety show “Live from Here” recently. Among the tunes they played was “Dean Town,” which is one of our favorite showcases of the great Joe Dart. (There was also a lot of head bobbing.)
What A Day: The Show Must Go On
There’s been a real resurgence in the love for Queen in the past year, thanks in part to the incredible biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. We’ve been getting quite a few Queen cover videos, but this version of “The Show Must Go On” by What A Day captured my imagination.
Marcus Miller: Live Session at Deli Express
TSF Jazz shared this cool improvised session by Marcus Miller as part of their “Live at Deli Express” series.
Leonid & Friends: Listen
It is always great to see a new video show up by Leonid & Friends, and another one of their fantastic Chicago covers. In this one, Leonid Vorobyev and the band perform “Listen.”
