This is a favorite among the notreble team. Marcus Miller and company take Edgar Winter’s “Frankenstein” and really groove. The band includes Miller, Keith Anderson, Poogie Bell, Dean Brown, Bobby Sparks and Patches Stewart and was filmed during the 2005 Tokyo Jazz concert.
Our friend Will sent us this video, from a 1971 Hot Tuna performance including the “devil devil devil of a man”, bassist Jack Casady. Enjoy “Uncle Sam Blues”:
Check out CFJ Project, a Florida-based band consisting of Colin James (keyboards), and Jaco Pastorius’s sons Julius Pastorius (drums) and Felix Pastorius (bass). Here’s the band performing Weather Report’s “Black Market” during a recent show at Alligator Alley in Oakland Park, Florida: Via Jacop.net.
We first heard this jam and then saw it. Quintin Berry‘s unusual style really caught us off guard, so we looked around to find out more. Quintin’s style has been called an “unusual underhanded technique, catchy fingerstyle and funky sound.” We can’t think of a better way to put it, and showing it is even better.
Okay, this is about the craziest thing we’ve seen all day, thanks to a link from Angela. Check out this guy and his one-string bass. Hey, it is probably pretty cheap to maintain.
We recently (gasp!) discovered Aladár Pege, an extraordinary double bassist. Here are a couple of videos to help you get through Monday. Sibiu Jazz Festival 2004 Solo: Performing “Donna Lee”:

Today’s featured player is Asataka “King” Bass rocking a Mark King-like duo with his teacher. Check it out:
Today’s featured video features Christian McBride playing electric bass on Jaco Pastorius’ “Havona”. Originally a two-parter video, Part 1 has been lost into the ether. But that’s okay, part 2 is killer: McBride originally recorded “Havona” on his Sci-Fi album.
Here’s Tal Wilkenfeld again, this time playing an awesome solo while performing with Jeff Beck, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Jason Rebello:
Jason, aka slapinfunk plays Jaco Pastorius’ Reza on his Ken Smith BSR6EG fretless. Want to promote a player? Drop us a note!
We’re not just on a video kick lately, we’re on a Zawinul Syndicate kick. This time around, Linley Marthe proves yet again that Zawinul knew how to pick bass players. This video features an extended solo by Marthe during the Lugano concert in July 27th, 2007, celebrating Zawinul’s last birthday. Enjoy!
