Here are couple of the greatest jazz bassists having fun on the old standard “Five O’Clock Whistle.” Ray Brown and John Clayton have a groove together like no other. And if you haven’t yet, make sure to check out their SuperBass stuff with Christian McBride.

Here’s an aptly named solo bass groove called “Wow” from bassist Bruno Tauzin. The piece offers a catchy melody supported by rich chordal responses to make for an interesting listen.

Who doesn’t like a good viral video? Korean rapper PSY scored it big with his latest hit “Gangnam Style,” which has reached over 67 million views on YouTube. The zany and infectious tune inspired Xander Myers to make a slightly funkier version with his own bass line. Check it out!

Facebook friend Alex Kalicinski sent us this great clip of UK bassist Damien Langkamer working out a groove and some solo ideas. Dig that tone! For the gear heads out there, Damien is playing a Roscoe SKB3005 bass.

Earlier this year, Marcus Miller and his band took part in the Thanks Jimi Festival in Wroclaw, Poland. Here’s one of the best fan-shot videos I’ve ever seen, capturing the band in their performance of WAR’s 1971 tune, “Slippin’ Into Darkness”. And it is awesome. This tune made it to Marcus’ recent release, Renaissance (read our review).

Here’s bassist Mattia La Maida, performing a Brian Bromberg-inspired solo bass version of the Beatles’ “Come Together”, which of course features Paul McCartney’s highly recognizable bass line. We’re huge fans of the combo of bassist Evan Marien and drummer Dana Hawkins, and it is clear that No Treble readers agree. Here’s the duo with one of their most recent videos, performing the tune “Flashes”.

Recorded earlier this summer, here’s Jaco Pastorius’ twin sons and their “Way of the Groove” band performing their father’s tune “Havona”. This combo was originally formed following a gig celebrating Jaco in 2002, with Felix on bass, Julius on drums, Colin James on sax and keyboards and Adam Lucas on guitar. Dig Felix’s extended solo on this one.

Andy Saxton really brings it in his tune, “A Fire Inside.” The hard-hitting, bass-up-front song features the bassist going nuts with slapping and tapping to drive unrelenting metal rhythms. The track comes from his new EP, Drum and Bass.

Alberto Rigoni is gearing up for the release of his upcoming album, Three Wise Monkeys with a few teaser videos. Here’s a clip of a funky metal bass riff from the song “Free Falling”. Rigoni’s group also includes vocalist Jonas Erixon, drummer Mark Cross and guitarist Simone Mularoni. Three Wise Monkeys is releasing in October.
