Dusty Hill keeps the bottom end simple, tight and in the pocket on this 1980 performance of “Cheap Sunglasses” from the DVD Double Down Live. His performance exudes pure attitude, and though the fuzzy guitars are missing, the beards are in full swing.

Spyro Gyra’s Scott Ambush balances between funky and soulful on this solo from the Richmond Jazz Festival earlier this year. The band grooves hard while playing around their tune “On the Road.”

Here’s a cool clip of Larry Graham taken from an out-of-print instructional video called “Super Slapping Bass.” The funky slap master gets heavy as he demos a few of his favorite effects pedals. Can Larry get any cooler? We think not.

Sam Dingle sent us some videos of bassist Matt Kniffen. We loved this one of Matt, performing an original solo bass piece, “Prima O Poi”. Sam said, “I really think that this kid in my town named Matt Kniffen needs to be [seen more]. His ‘band’, Soundscape. is just him (on 6 string bass guitar) and he programs the drums.”...

So cool. Here’s Stevie Wonder and band performing Chick Corea’s “Spain”. Nathan Watts is holding down the low end, in his usual awesome way. Part 2 of the video has a tasty solo from Watts. This clip comes from the DVD, filmed at the O2 Arena in London in 2008. Part 1: Part 2:

This clip comes from the 1979 film, The Kids Are Alright, featuring the isolated bass work of John Entwistle on the Who’s classic “Won’t Get Fooled Again”. Give it a little time before the Ox dives in, around the 50 second mark.

There’s no school like the old school. Here’s bassist Slam Stewart with pianist/guitarist Slim Gaillard performing some excellent swing, circa 1941. This clip is from Hellzapoppin’, and credits also include Rex Stewart on trumpet, Elmer Fane on clarinet, Jap Jones on trombone and CP Johnson on drums.

Here’s an incredible fan-shot performance by Richard Bona, paying tribute to Jaco Pastorius and Joe Zawinul in this medley of tunes by the legends. It starts with Jaco’s “Liberty City” and moves on to the Weather Report, Zawinul-penned “Black Market” with a little “Birdland” used to bridge the two tunes. Bona’s solo in the middle is pretty incredible as well,...

Once again, Fabio Meridiani caught our ears with this performance of “The Sync”, a cool and funky solo bass piece from Fabio’s album Subline 2.

Facebook friend Matt Lewis shares this video of Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner performing “Daylight”, at The Echo in Los Angeles. This performance was part of Thundercat’s record release party, celebrating the release of the bassist’s solo debut, The Golden Age of Apocalypse. Thundercat has also performed with Suicidal Tendencies since he replaced Robert Trujillo in 2002.

People (us included), really really dug the last video we featured by the Tedeschi Trucks Band, thanks in big part to the awesomeness of bassist Oteil Burbridge.
