Here’s a clip from Queen’s 1982 performance in Canada, released on the 2007 DVD Queen Rock Montreal. Bassist John Deacon holds down catchy riff on his Fender P-bass while the band jams out a heavy groove.

Felix Pastorius (the son of Jaco Pastorius) plays some funky bass with Jeff Coffin and the Mu’tet in this live performance at the Rio Rock and Blues Club in Rio de Janeiro. If you dig that, you might want to check out the group’s new album, Live!.

I’ve been listening to a ton of music with the great Jerry Jemmott lately and decided to check out some videos too. This one, which aired on The Late Show with David Letterman earlier this year, made me smile to see the bass legend still going strong. Really strong.

Here’s a nice inside look at the Peter Erskine New Trio performing “Every Tomorrow” from their new album, Joy Luck. This is the first project between uncle (Peter) and nephew, bassist (and No Treble contributor) Damian Erskine. “Every Tomorrow” was written by the other member of the trio, pianist Vardan Ovsepian. Also cool: bassist Janek Gwizdala filmed this video.

This clip is from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performance by Jeff Beck, along with Beck’s band (at the time), bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and keyboardist Jason Rebello. Jimmy Page joins the band for the group’s performance of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”.

Here’s a terrific live performance of “Rio Funk”, with Abraham Laboriel with Lee Ritenour’s band. The guys have some fun goofing around at the beginning, before getting into seriously funky territory. Part 1: Part 2:

Jaco Pastorius‘s Word of Mouth band took on many forms over the years. This line up – Mike Stern, Alex Foster, Ron Tooley, Don Alias, Kenwood Dennard and Delmar Brown – performs “Soul Intro / The Chicken”, live in Nice in 1983.

Recorded live in July 1976 in Montreux, Switzerland, here’s the Cobham/Duke Band performing the groove-tastic “Red Baron”. The band includes Alphonso Johnson on bass, John Scofield on guitar, Duke on keys and Cobham on drums.

Bootsy Collins has released a video for the track “JB – Still the Man,” from his latest album, Tha Funk Capital of the World. The uber-funky groove pays homage to the “Godfather of Soul” with a voice-over of Reverend Al Sharpton while rolling great footage of the “Hardest Working Man in Show Business” doing his thing back in the day....

Damian Erskine shared this video of Kai Eckhardt demonstrating a drone exercise, with moving chords and polyrhythms. Kai says it is a work in progress, with the goal of “[combining] the power of funk bass slap with the sophistication of jazz harmony, Indian tabla beatz and African trance.” Have a video to share?
