“Jaco” Documentary to Get Sneak Peek at Mill Valley Film Festival

Jaco Pastorius

We’ve been waiting for this.

Robert Trujillo is hosting a “work-in-progress screening” of his Jaco documentary next month at the Mill Valley Film Festival. The film, which has been in production since 2012, is described as one capturing “the story of his restless, indestructible spirit” of Jaco Pastorius.

The event is part of MVFF Artists in Residence series, with members of Metallica each hosting the screening of a different film.

A special live event is also scheduled, featuring music by MAERIC – the band formed by Jaco’s daughter Mary Pastorius along with her husband Eric Young, with Jaco’s nephew David Pastorius on bass. The event will also include Metallica’s Kirk Hammett (along with Trujillo), Rodrigo y Gabriela, Jane’s Addiction’s Stephen Perkins, L. Shankar and special guests.

The film has seen a change in directors since it began. Stephen Kijak began the film with Paul Marchand working as the editor. Marchand has since taken over as director after Stephen Kijak’s early departure.

We’ve learned a bit more about the 100 minute documentary, including appearances by Flea, Sting, Joni Mitchell, Geddy Lee and Bootsy Collins.

Trujillo has been involved in many things related to Jaco in recent years, bringing more attention to the late, great bass pioneer.
