Jason Newsted Announces Reverb Artist Shop With Rare Instruments For Sale

Jason Newsted Reverb Artist Shop Basses

The online music marketplace Reverb has teamed up with many artists to help them sell their gear, but their upcoming collaboration will be one of the most epic. Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted will be selling off basses and guitars from throughout his career starting on July 24th. He says nearly all of the instruments have been used in the studio, in music videos, on album covers, or on stages around the world.

“I’m teaming up with Reverb to sell some pieces from my collection for the very first time. The last 30 or 40 years, as I’ve traveled around playing music for people, I’ve gathered some cool shit,” Newsted said. “I traveled the world to collect these pieces, and many of these pieces have traveled the world with me. I’d like to get them into the hands of other players because I can only play so many at once, and wonderful guitars such as these should not live in cases forever…they deserve to be enjoyed!”

The list of basses is staggering, with quite a few standouts, including a 1992 Alembic Europa Custom 10-string bass that Newsted used on tour in support of the Metallica album, aka The Black Album. “This is a very special piece of metal history, and it’s one of one,” he says. “This thing is a beast…you have to be a straight badass to carry it, let alone play it.”

He’s also selling the 5-string fretless Zon bass he used to record “Until It Sleeps” from Load. Other basses include a 1989 20th Anniversary model Alembic, a cherry sunburst-finished PRS bass, an original Ampeg AUB-1 Scroll Bass, a custom 3-string Music Man, a 1980 Rickenbacker 4080 double-neck, and more. There are also several instruments with one-of-one finishes hand-painted by Newsted himself.

Guitars in the Reverb store include several Gibsons, a 1937 National Dobro Tri-Cone Resonator, a Mosrite 5-string electric mandolin guitar, and more.
