Jeff Coffin Recruits Top Bassists for “Only The Horizon”

Virtuoso saxophonist Jeff Coffin is a member of the Dave Matthews Band and a former member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. As such, he’s befriended some of the most talented musicians in the world. That’s clear on his new album, Only The Horizon.
The eight-song collection has appearances by Carter Beauford, Keb’ Mo’, Cory Wong, Jon Cowherd, Bela Fleck, Keith Carlock, Nate Smith, Nir Felder, Futureman, and many more. The list of bassists is bonkers: Victor Wooten, MonoNeon, STS9’s Alana Rocklin, Jay White, DMB’s Stefan Lessard, Viktor Krauss, and Dumpstaphunk’s Tony Hall.
The great assortment of players helps to create a great assortment of grooves, incorporating West African rhythms into jazz, funk, R&B, and more.
“I really feel ‘Only The Horizon’ is the finest thing I’ve ever done, both because it is all original music, because of the contributions of all the great musicians (more than 40) who participated in it, and because of the spirit and inspiration that I feel everyone generated throughout the sessions,” the bandleader explains.
Coffin’s former bandmate Victor Wooten helps to kick things off on the opening track, “Here We Go”:
Only The Horizon is out now on CD and digital formats (Apple Music and Amazon Music).
