Ibanez Redefines SR Prestige Bass Series with Enhanced Electronics for NAMM 2025

Ibanez’s SR Prestige series is getting a big refresh for 2025. Described as a “major overhaul,” the company’s higher-end line has nine new models crafted in Japan. The series will be on display at the 2025 NAMM Show.

Central to the update is a new electronics package with a pair of Nordstrand Big Single pickups housed under custom wooden covers and Ibanez’s new Sonitech preamp. Also made in Japan, the circuit has a passive tone control and a “Hexa-mid system.”

“The Hexa-mid system provides six selectable mid-range frequencies, divided into two banks: a high bank (1kHz, 600Hz, 350Hz) and a low bank (850Hz, 450Hz, 250Hz),” Ibanez writes. “Players can switch between banks using a selector switch on the control cavity cover and select individual frequencies with a three-way mini-toggle on the front.” The R&D team adds they wanted to combine the flexibility of sweepable mids with the precision of fixed frequencies, leading to the preamp’s creation.

The nine new basses are split up into four model groups with varying options. It begins with the SR3500, which comes in four, five, or six-string versions with an alder body, roasted maple and walnut neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. The SR4500 steps things up to an ash body while losing the six-string format.

The SR5500 comes in four, five, or six-string configurations. Standard features include an Ovangkol top, an African Mahogany body, an S-Tech roasted maple and walnut neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. Finally, the top-of-the-line SR6500 is a five-string with a Mappa Burl top, African Mahogany body, roasted maple and walnut neck, and a rosewood fingerboard.

Ibanez’s 2025 SR Prestige Series basses carry street prices ranging from $2,299 to $3,299.
