Jason Momoa’s Stradi “Prince of Darkness” Bass: A Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with Ancient Bog Oak

Could this be the best bass for metal?

Stradi has shared their latest masterpiece: a bass built for actor and bassist Jason Momoa in tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. As such, the bass is dubbed “The Prince of Darkness.”

The instrument is as unique as the late Black Sabbath singer himself, with imperfections adding character and uniqueness. Builder Marek Dabek wrote about it on the company’s Facebook page.

“[It is] made with raw, unfinished, almost 5000 years old bog oak body and top with natural cracks,” he wrote. “The back of the body remains unsanded with chainsaw marks, with natural cracks on the upper horn filled with melted bismuth – just like Ozzy’s metal filled our cracked souls. Black frets on ebony fingerboard, padouk neck, red as the eyes of a demon whose horns create the headstock. Relic hardware to fit the raw aesthetics of the design. Raw steel backplate with dedication to the Prince of Darkness himself…”

Stradi fit the bass with a DiMarzio Relentless pickup, Gotoh Res-o-Lite tuners, and a Hipshot bridge.

Momoa was friends with Ozzy and hosted Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning Concert before jumping into the pit himself. This bass is a true piece of art to commemorate a one-of-a-kind man.
