It was a big night for Mike Dirnt at the Bass Magazine Awards, where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in front of a packed room of peers and fans. The honor was presented by Mark Hoppus, making the moment feel even more bass community centered.
Dirnt was joined by Green Day, who followed the presentation with a tight, high energy set that reminded everyone why his bass playing has been so influential for decades. The band tore through a career spanning run of songs that balanced early punk roots with arena sized classics.
The setlist included Welcome to Paradise, Longview, Basket Case, J.A.R. Holiday, American Idiot, and When I Come Around. From the opening notes, it was clear this was both a celebration and a victory lap, with Dirnt’s bass lines driving every song just as hard as they did when they first hit.
For a photo set, it does not get much better. Big smiles, loud amps, and a well deserved moment for one of punk rock’s most important bassists. Also check out some vids at the bottom of the photos below.
