Squier’s New Paranormal Precision Bass Thinline SJ Breaks the P-Bass Formula
Fender has expanded the Squier Paranormal series with several new instruments, including the Paranormal Precision Bass Thinline SJ. The intriguing model reimagines the original Fender bass guitar as a semi-hollow design with an “unconventional” SJ pickup combination of a Fender-Designed alnico single-coil ’51 P Bass pickup in the neck position paired with a Fender-Designed alnico single-coil Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge.
“Connected through a 3-way blade switch, this unique pairing delivers everything from the deep, thumping warmth of the original Precision Bass to the focused, growling bite of a Jazz Bass, and everywhere in between,” Fender states. “The thinline semi-hollow body construction adds natural acoustic resonance and reduced weight for enhanced playability.”
The Thinline SJ comes in three finishes: Vintage White, 3-Color Sunburst, and Olive. Each bass is built with a nyatoh body and maple neck. The Olive and Subnurst basses have an Indian Laurel fingerboard, while the White has a maple one. Other features include a “C”-shaped neck profile, a 4-saddle vintage-style bridge with slotted barrel saddles, and vintage-style open-gear tuners.
